Vandalism At Newman/ Residents Asked To Check Cameras
NOPD SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN VANDALISM AT ISIDORE NEWMAN SCHOOL RESIDENTS ASKED TO CHECK CAMERAS NEW ORLEANS
The NOPD is searching for an individual seen in surveillance footage early this morning (Aug 17) vandalizing several areas of the campus of Isidore Newman School, located at 1903 Jefferson Avenue. At about 1:33 a.m., an unknown white male is seen on video surveillance approaching the school from Loyola Street. The subject is seen wearing a mask, dark clothing, a dark backpack and a dark hat. The subject is then seen spray-painting multiple threatening and vulgar messages on several buildings throughout the campus. The person who did this was at Newman from 1:33-1:48 am this morning. So checking cameras in the neighborhood before and after could be helpful. The police believe the person was driving a very small silver compact car. Based on the initial investigation, detectives believe the suspect is responsible for similar incidents reported in the area. The school has closed for the day and has postponed the start of classes until Monday, August 22. The FBI’s Hate Crimes Division is assisting the NOPD in the on-going investigation. Video or photos from the incident that will help identify the suspect responsible will be released to the public when they become available.
